Hey look chapter 6 already! (I think it's 6). You can tell i've been working hard. The next chapter will be a lot more fun to make up for how serious it has been getting recently!
When the Sun Sets...
...A story of Love, Lust and... Vampires?!
Chapter 6
Közi glanced at Mana’s sleeping form. His chest moving slowly up and down as he breathed. It had been no different when he had changed him…
Mana breathing had slowed down. He was taking about 4 breathes a minute. Közi had been slightly worried at first, but soon realised that Mana was alright. He had never changed anyone before. He could only go by his memory and off course he had no idea what happened after he had lost consciousness. He’d been told a little over the years but not a lot. After Mana had drunk from him he too had drunk from Mana to recover his strength. Mana had slipped into the unconscious state of the change. He almost looked dead until you looked closely. He will need blood when he wakes up. Közi thought. I’m going to have to leave him. He got up and walked towards the door. Mana wouldn’t awake. The beauty of the change is that the sleeper would only listen to the vampire’s voice. Közi could get Mana to do whatever he wanted right now. Mana would sleep forever unless Közi commanded him to wake up.
Returning to his house with the young woman Közi instantly went to check on Mana. Mana was fine and hadn’t moved since Közi had left. Why would he move, unless someone had come and moved him. The girl was in a trance. Közi had hypnotised her into following him. She wouldn’t even remember any off this later.
“It’s time to awake” Közi said to Mana. Mana had been asleep for about 8 hours. The change could be done in 4 but Mana had been so weak Közi had decided to double it to make sure. Mana blinked awake.
‘I can’t breathe!’ Was Mana’s first thought. He was grasping for breath but none would come.
“It’s ok I have food” came Közi voice. Mana glanced up and smiled at his lover then his eyes moved to the woman’s neck. Jumping up his fangs were at her neck instantly. The woman gasped in pain but soon the vampire saliva took effect and she went silent. Mana drank her blood surprised to find that to a vampire human blood tasted sweet. Mana knew from all the times he had sucked his fingers after cutting them that human blood used to taste coppery and not very nice at all. This was amazing though. He hissed at Közi as Közi pulled him away.
“You’re had enough” Közi decided.
“I want more” Mana glared.
“We can’t kill her it will raise too many questions. You need to learn when to stop.” Közi explained patiently. His first meal had become his first kill. He remembered the guilt he had felt afterwards. No way would he let Mana go though anything like that. Sure Mana didn’t know the woman but he would still feel guilt. Közi had known his first kill. It made it even worse.
Mana saw the reasoning behind Közi logic and went to sit on the bed sulking. He wanted more but killing would raise questions. He didn’t want to have to move again. He liked it here. Közi hypnotised the woman to go home then went and sat next to Mana.
“Do you know what I did to you?” he asked Mana. Putting his arm around Mana’s shoulders.
“You’ve made me like you” was Mana’s reply. “But I don’t really understand what that is….”
Közi had spent the next few weeks teaching Mana all the traits of a vampire. How to hunt without raising suspicion and how to hypnotise people into forgetting. Mana learnt to control himself. Közi was right killing people was not beneficial even though Mana believed some people truly deserved it. A lot of people had been cruel to Mana in the past, he had little respect for human life. The only person who had ever truly looked after Mana had been Közi, who off course was a vampire.
Közi sighed as he remembered. He couldn’t really place when Mana had gotten bored of him. Mana’s love had just gradually died over the years whilst Közi’s remained as strong as ever. Közi had told himself he know longer loved at all so many times that sometimes even he believed it. But not tonight. Gackt’s vicious attack on Mana had shown him once and for all that his love for Mana was not dead had never been dead and hadn’t even faded at all in the all the long years he had known Mana. Mana still respected him. He probably still had some kind of love in his heart. The wrong kind of love though. Mana now saw Közi as an older brother figure. Well not quite brother. After all you don’t kiss your brother. Closer than brothers then. But not lovers, except when Mana was depressed and wanted Közi’s extra special attention.
As the morning light came though into the room Mana started to wake up. “ I’m going now” Közi announced. Who hadn’t slept at all.
“Yeah ok” muttered Mana who was still half asleep, rolling over he went back to sleep. He had temporarily forgotten what Közi was planning.
“I’m coming” called Gackt as someone pounded on his front door. He had been working out and was a little tired. Opening the front door he found Közi glaring at him.
“How dare you!” was Közi’s ‘warm’ welcome. Gackt blinked.
“Excuse me?” he asked puzzled. He couldn’t figure out why Közi was so angry at him.
“Mana has told me everything” Közi said through clenched teeth. He wanted to punch Gackt right there and then, however if Gackt truly was a prince like he suspected he just wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Then why are you mad at me and not him?” Gackt asked as it dawned on him why Közi was there.
“You slammed him into a wall.” Közi glared. “He’s been in pain all night.”
“Well maybe I was a bit hard” Gackt admitted “But he had made me so angry.” Közi paused on this. Had Mana done something to upset Gackt? He properly had. Közi mentally kicked himself. Off course Gackt had been provoked. Why else would he slam Mana against a wall! He felt his anger slowly be drained away.
“He didn’t try to hypnotise you did he?” Közi asked. Already knowing the answer.
“Yes. He was blabbing on about how much he loved me. He didn’t seem entirely sane to tell the truth” Gackt explained. Közi sighed and sat down on a nearby chair. Gackt sat down too. The anger had been drained out of him. Gackt was more or less innocent. Mana had probably gotten more than he deserved but it had been provoked. Közi didn’t have the energy to be mad at Mana. Mana had hopefully learnt his lesson this time.
“You know I told him not too.” Közi said more to himself than Gackt. “I warned him about what would happen, but he can be stubborn.”
“It’s happened before?” Gackt asked.
“Once” Közi responded with a sigh. “Don’t blame him. He can’t help himself.” There was a moment of silence. “Is it true? Are you really a Prince?”
“Well… yeah.” Gackt admitted. “Imagine. All this time we’ve been hiding the fact we’re vampires from each other.”
“Yeah. It was unnecessary looking back. Well actually only the three of us are vampires” Közi added as an afterthought. He decided to keep quiet on what exactly Yu~ki was. He might need that advantage one day. “I know you’re a Prince which puts you above me but this is my band and my rules OK?”
“Yeah.” Gackt agreed. “I’ll let you be in charge of the band. Nothing will change.” Közi smiled in relief. He’s been worried about Gackt’s reaction.
“You can’t kill” Közi explained praying Gackt would still be agreeable.
“Oh don’t worry that’s not an issue” Gackt responded. “Would you like breakfast?” he asked.
“Sure. I’m kind of hungry.” Közi admitted. “What have you got?” The two friends headed towards the kitchen talking as if nothing had changed between them, because really nothing had.
